Kitto News is committed to accuracy and transparency. This Correction Policy explains how we handle errors, clarifications and updates in our content.
Our Commitment
Despite careful reporting and fact-checking, mistakes can occur. When we identify a significant error, or when a reader or subject of a story brings one to our attention, we:
- Review the claim in good faith
- Verify the correct information
- Correct the error as quickly as reasonably possible
- Disclose significant corrections on the article itself
Types of Changes
1. Minor Corrections
These include small errors that do not materially change the understanding of the story, such as:
- Typographical errors
- Minor spelling mistakes
- Small formatting issues
These may be corrected without a specific note on the article.
2. Significant Corrections
These include errors that affect key facts, such as:
- Names, ages or roles of people
- Important dates or locations
- Key figures (e.g., amounts of money, votes, casualties)
- Misattributed quotes or mischaracterised statements
For significant corrections, we:
- Correct the error in the article, and
- Add a brief “Correction” note near the top or bottom of the story, explaining what was corrected and when.
3. Updates
Sometimes new information emerges after publication that adds to, but does not alter, the core of the story (for example, an official statement or outcome of an ongoing investigation). In these cases, we:
- Add the new information to the article, and
- Mark it clearly with an “Update” label and date.
How to Request a Correction
If you believe an article on Kitto News contains an error, please email:
- Email: kittonews@gmail.com
- Subject line: “Correction Request – [Article Title]”
Include:
- The URL of the article
- A clear description of the alleged error
- The proposed correction and any supporting evidence or links
- Your name and preferred contact method
All correction requests are reviewed by the Editor.
Review Process
- The Editor (currently Gowhar Nabi) reviews each valid request along with the original sources and any new information.
- If a correction or update is warranted, it will be implemented as soon as reasonably possible, generally within a few days depending on complexity.
- In some cases, we may decline to correct or update if the request is not supported by evidence or relates to matters of interpretation rather than fact.
Kitto News reserves the right to revise this Correction Policy as practices and standards evolve.
