Infographic displaying a calendar for January 2026 with the 24th, 25th, and 26th highlighted as a long weekend. It clarifies that banks in AP and Telangana are closed for all three days, while schools are open on Jan 24th but closed on Jan 26th for Republic Day.
This infographic clarifies the 3-day long weekend schedule for banks and schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for January 24-26, 2026.

Key Highlights

  • The Streak: Jan 24 (Saturday), Jan 25 (Sunday), Jan 26 (Monday).
  • Banks: CLOSED for all 3 days (4th Saturday + Sunday + Republic Day).
  • Schools: Closed on Jan 26 (Mon). Saturday (Jan 24) is a working day for most state schools.
  • Offices: State Govt offices follow standard holidays (Closed Mon; Sat is working).

Hyderabad: With January 26 (Republic Day) falling on a Monday this year, a natural long weekend has formed. However, the applicability of the “3-Day Holiday” varies significantly between the banking sector and educational institutions.

1. The “3-Day Holiday” for Banks

For bank employees and customers, this is a confirmed long weekend.

  • January 24 (Saturday): This is the 4th Saturday of the month. As per RBI rules, banks across AP and Telangana will remain closed.
  • January 25 (Sunday): Weekly public holiday.
  • January 26 (Monday): Republic Day (National Holiday).

⚠️ Advisory: Residents are advised to complete urgent cash withdrawals and branch transactions immediately. ATMs may face cash crunches by Saturday evening due to the continuous 3-day closure and no refilling services.

2. Status for Schools & Colleges

There is significant confusion among parents regarding Saturday, Jan 24. Here is the clarification:

  • General Rule: In both AP and Telangana, the Second Saturday is the designated holiday. The Fourth Saturday (Jan 24) is typically a Working Day.
  • Andhra Pradesh Update (No Bag Day): While Jan 24 is a working day, AP government schools observe “No Bag Day” on Saturdays. Students will likely attend for sports, cultural activities, and Republic Day rehearsals without carrying heavy books.
  • The Verdict: Unless a specific District Collector (DC) announces a local holiday, schools will function as usual on Saturday, Jan 24.
  • The Break: Students will get holidays on Sunday (Jan 25) and Monday (Jan 26).

3. Republic Day Celebrations (New Venue Alert)

  • Andhra Pradesh: In a historic move, the official state celebrations for 2026 have been shifted to Amaravati (Capital Region). The parade will be held at the newly prepared grounds, moving away from the traditional IGMC Stadium in Vijayawada.
  • Telangana: The main state event will be held at the Public Gardens / Parade Grounds in Hyderabad.
  • School Mandate: Attendance on Monday morning (Jan 26) is often mandatory for the flag-hoisting ceremony before the holiday is declared for the rest of the day.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A: No, Jan 24 is the 4th Saturday. Typically, schools work on 4th Saturdays unless a specific notice is issued by the school management.
