Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you apply online and track your card without visiting any office.

Who Can Apply

You can apply for a Voter ID if you:

  • Are an Indian citizen
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have a permanent address in the constituency where you want to register

Step 1: Visit the Official Voter Portal

Go to the National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) or the Voters’ Services section on the Election Commission website. This is the only official platform for voter registration and services.

Step 2: Register or Log In

  • New users should choose “Register as a New Voter”
  • Enter your mobile number and email
  • Verify using the OTP sent to your phone

Step 3: Fill Form 6 (New Voter Registration)

Form 6 is used to add your name to the electoral roll. You’ll need to enter:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Basic personal details

Ensure all information matches your documents to avoid delays.

Step 4: Upload Required Documents

Upload clear scans or photos of:

  • Identity proof (Aadhaar, passport, etc.)
  • Address proof (utility bill, bank statement, etc.)
  • Age proof (if required)
  • Recent passport-size photograph

Clear documents help speed up verification.

Step 5: Submit & Wait for Verification

After submission, a Booth Level Officer (BLO) may verify your details, either digitally or through a brief address check. Once approved, your EPIC is generated.

Step 6: Track Your Voter ID Status

You can track your application online using:

  • Application reference number, or
  • EPIC number (once generated)

Status updates are also sent via SMS.

How the 15-Day Delivery Works

Under the new system:

  • EPIC cards are printed quickly after approval
  • Delivery is coordinated with postal services
  • Applicants receive real-time SMS updates from approval to dispatch

Most applicants receive their Voter ID within about 15 days, though timelines may vary slightly by location.

Tips to Avoid Delays

✔ Enter details exactly as per documents
✔ Upload clear, readable files
✔ Keep your mobile number active
✔ Respond promptly if contacted for verification

Bottom Line

Applying for a Voter ID is now fully digital, simple, and fast. With the Election Commission’s upgraded system, first-time voters can get their EPIC in as little as 15 days, making it easier than ever to get registered and ready to vote.

Disclaimer: Application steps and delivery timelines are based on current Election Commission guidelines and may vary by state or verification requirements. Applicants should always refer to official portals for the latest updates.
