A Statue of Liberty replica in Brazil was knocked down after powerful winds swept through the region during a severe storm, according to local reports. The incident occurred when intense gusts caused the structure to lose balance and collapse, drawing widespread attention on social media.

The fallen statue is a replica inspired by the iconic Statue of Liberty in New York, not the original monument in the United States.

Storm Causes Structural Damage

Videos circulating online show the statue lying on the ground after the storm, with debris scattered around the site. Local authorities said the damage was caused by extreme weather conditions, including strong winds that exceeded safe limits for lightweight structures.

No injuries were reported, and emergency services secured the area shortly after the incident.

Not the Original Statue in New York

Officials clarified that the toppled structure was not the Statue of Liberty in New York, but a replica installed in Brazil as a local attraction. The original Statue of Liberty in the United States remains unaffected and fully intact.

The clarification was issued after initial confusion online led some users to believe the historic monument in New York had been damaged.

Weather Alerts Issued in the Region

The storm was part of a broader weather system that affected several areas, prompting authorities to issue weather warnings and advise residents to remain indoors. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and unstable conditions were reported in multiple locations.

Officials said assessments are underway to evaluate damage to other structures in the area.

Conclusion

The collapse of the Statue of Liberty replica highlights the impact of extreme weather events on public installations and structures. Authorities have assured that safety checks will be carried out before any restoration or rebuilding work begins.
