Australian all-rounder Cameron Green created history at the IPL 2026 auction after being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a massive ₹25.2 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player ever in IPL history.
The winning bid came after an intense bidding war involving Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, eventually surpassing KKR’s previous overseas record signing of Mitchell Starc, who was bought for ₹24.75 crore at the 2024 auction.
Third Most Expensive Player Overall
Green’s price tag also places him as the third most expensive player in overall IPL history.
The all-time IPL record belongs to Rishabh Pant, who joined Lucknow Super Giants for ₹27 crore at the 2025 auction. Earlier that same day, Shreyas Iyer was signed by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore.
Green’s IPL Career So Far
The 26-year-old has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL. In 29 matches, Green has:
- Scored 707 runs
- Maintained a strike rate above 150
- Taken 16 wickets
Although he was listed in the capped batters category at the auction, Green clarified that he will be available as an all-rounder, calling the listing an error by his management.
Injury Comeback and Current Form
Green has dealt with recurring back injuries and missed the IPL 2025 season after undergoing surgery. He returned to competitive cricket in June as a specialist batter and is currently playing as an all-rounder for Australia in the ongoing Ashes series against England.
England Players at the Auction
The IPL auction is still ongoing, with 18 England players included in the longlist.
- Ben Duckett secured his first IPL contract, joining Delhi Capitals for ₹2 crore
- However, players such as Liam Livingstone, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow and Jamie Smith went unsold
