New Delhi: For millions of salaried employees in India, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is the biggest safety net for retirement. With the financial year 2025-26 nearing its end, keeping track of your monthly contributions and interest credits is critical. Whether you are applying for a loan or just financial planning, you need your EPFO Member Passbook.

  • Method 1: The Official EPFO Website (Most Detailed)
  • Method 2: The UMANG App (Best for Mobile)
  • Method 3: Missed Call or SMS (Quickest Check)

The good news? You don’t need to visit the PF office. You can access your passbook in seconds via the Portal, App, or SMS.

Method 1: The Official EPFO Website (Most Detailed)

This method gives you the full statement, including employer/employee shares and pension contributions.

  1. Visit the Portal: Go directly to the official EPFO Member Passbook Portal (passbook.epfindia.gov.in).
  2. Login: Enter your Universal Account Number (UAN), Password, and the Captcha code.
  3. Select Member ID: If you have changed jobs, you will see a dropdown menu. Select the current Member ID to view the latest balance.
  4. Download: Click on “Download Passbook” to save the detailed PDF file.
    • Note: Ensure your UAN is activated and linked to your KYC details.

Method 2: The UMANG App (Best for Mobile)

The Government of India’s Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG) is the fastest way to check details on the go.

  1. Open App: Launch the UMANG app (available on iOS/Android).
  2. Search EPFO: Tap on the “EPFO” service card in the search bar.
  3. View Passbook: Select “View Passbook” and enter your UAN.
  4. OTP Verification: Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number. Your balance will appear instantly.

Method 3: Missed Call or SMS (Quickest Check)

If you don’t have internet access, these offline methods work perfectly.

A. Missed Call Service

  • Give a missed call to 9966044425 from your registered mobile number.
  • The call will disconnect automatically after two rings, and you will receive an SMS with your balance details.

B. SMS Service

  • Send an SMS to 7738299899.
  • Format: EPFOHO <UAN> ENG
  • (Example: If your UAN is 123456789012, type: EPFOHO 123456789012 ENG).
  • Tip: Replace ‘ENG’ with your preferred language code (HIN, TAM, BEN, MAR, etc.).

Key Highlights

  • Critical Requirement: Your UAN must be activated, and your mobile number must be registered with the EPFO.
  • Cost: All these services are Free of Charge.
  • Immediate Action: Download your passbook today to verify if your employer has deposited the latest contribution.

FAQ Section

Q1: Why is my UAN login showing “Invalid Password”?

A1: Passwords expire periodically. If you haven’t logged in recently, use the “Forgot Password” link on the Unified Portal to reset it via OTP.

Q2: Can I download the passbook if I have forgotten my UAN?

A2: No, UAN is mandatory. However, you can retrieve your UAN by clicking “Know Your UAN” on the portal and verifying your Aadhaar/PAN details.

Q3: Is the passbook available for exempted establishments?

A3: No. If your company is an exempted establishment (manages its own PF trust), you must check the balance through your company’s HR portal, not the EPFO website.
