Key Highlights:

  • App to offer passbook viewing, account details, and claim tracking
  • EPFO to launch a mobile app enabling EPF advance withdrawals via UPI by April 2026
  • Members can transfer eligible EPF funds directly to bank accounts using UPI PIN
  • Proposed instant transaction cap of ₹25,000 via UPI (higher amounts available via standard processing)
  • Auto-settlement limit for advance claims raised to ₹5 lakh for faster disbursals

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to launch a new mobile application by April 2026 that will allow its nearly 8 crore members to withdraw a portion of their Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) savings directly into their bank accounts using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).

The app, currently undergoing testing with 100 dummy accounts, is part of the broader EPFO 3.0 digital transformation initiative. It aims to streamline the advance withdrawal process by enabling members to authenticate transactions using their UPI PIN, offering instant access to smaller sums without paperwork or delays.

According to officials, the proposed system will allow members to withdraw up to 75% of their EPF balance for permitted purposes such as medical treatment, education, marriage, or housing. A transaction cap of ₹25,000 per UPI withdrawal is under consideration to manage risk and ensure compliance. These UPI-based withdrawals are intended for advance claims, not final settlements. Members requiring larger sums will still be able to apply through standard processing channels.

In a related move, EPFO has already increased the auto-settlement limit for advance claims from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh. This enhancement enables faster disbursal of eligible claims—often within 72 hours—without manual intervention.

The new app will also provide access to passbook balances, account details, and claim tracking, complementing existing platforms like the UAN portal and the UMANG app.

This initiative reflects EPFO’s commitment to modernizing its services and aligning with the government’s Digital India mission.
