A new expressway connecting Delhi, the capital, to Dausa, close to Jaipur, is now open. It is part of the larger Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The construction of the remaining sections is progressing swiftly, and images of them are constantly emerging. You can already see the eventual glory of this route in these photos. The road connecting Delhi and Mumbai would be much easier after its development.
Now, it takes 24 hours to go from Delhi to Mumbai, but with this expressway, it will take just 12 hours. The existing road distance between Delhi and Mumbai is around 1,800 km; however, after the new route is completed, this distance will be reduced to 450 km.
This expressway’s most distinctive feature is the construction of a dedicated electric car lane. This expressway can be expanded to 12 lanes; however, it only has eight lanes for now. The original budget was approximately Rs 1 lakh crore to build it. Still, the project has been running behind schedule, so that number will likely increase.
This expressway will facilitate travel between Delhi and Mumbai and improve accessibility to six states, making it a significant project. This expressway will streamline travel to and from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, boosting business in these states.
This expressway is unique because it is the fastest highway in the nation. On it, vehicles can travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. To construct it, some 15,000 hectares of land have been purchased. The original target date, 2026, has been pushed back by almost two years to 2028.
About 426 kilometers, or the bulk of this expressway, will run across Gujarat. According to reports, the second longest section will go through Rajasthan, measuring 373 kilometers. While 129 kilometers of the highway will go through Haryana and 171 kilometers through Maharashtra, another 244 will go through Madhya Pradesh.
In addition to linking the two cities, the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway would open up access to around twelve more cities. Jaipur, Ajmer, Kishangarh, Kota, Udaipur, Chittorgarh, Bhopal, Ujjain, Ahmedabad, Indore, Surat, and Vadodara may all be more easily reached along this route.
The estimated cement needed to construct this highway is 80 lakh tonnes. More than 50 lakh people have been directly or indirectly employed due to its construction, in addition to thousands of engineers. Once finished, it will also improve trade between Mumbai and Delhi.
In all, four segments make up this freeway. The initial segment, measuring approximately 59 kilometers in length, is DND-Faridabad-KMP. According to reports, the second segment, Sohna-KMP-Vadodara, is around 844 kilometers long. The third segment is 354 kilometers and goes from Vadodara to Virar. A 92-kilometer-long segment is now under construction, connecting Virar to JNPT.
