New Delhi: In a surprise New Year gift to households, the prices of cooking gas have been slashed effective from today, January 1, 2026.
While car prices and highway tolls have gone up this morning, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a reduction in the prices of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) and CNG in the National Capital Region (NCR).
1. PNG Price Cut: Cheaper to Cook Food
If you have a piped gas connection in Delhi, Noida, or Gurugram, your monthly bill will drop slightly.
- The Cut: IGL has reduced PNG prices by ₹0.70 per SCM (Standard Cubic Meter).
- New Rates (Effective Jan 1):
- Delhi: ₹47.89 per scm.
- Noida/Greater Noida: ₹47.76 per scm.
- Gurugram: ₹46.70 per scm.
- Why? This reduction comes after the implementation of the new “Unified Gas Tariff” policy by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB), which has lowered transportation costs for gas pipelines across India.
2. Commercial LPG Prices Revised
State-owned oil marketing companies like Indian Oil have also revised the prices of LPG cylinders today.
- Commercial (19kg): Prices have been reportedly cut marginally in several metros due to softening global crude oil rates. This is a relief for restaurant owners.
- Domestic (14.2kg): The price of the standard red domestic cylinder remains unchanged today.
3. “One Nation, One Gas Tariff” Kicks In
Starting today, India has moved to a simpler gas pricing zone system.
- The Change: Previously, gas became expensive the further it traveled from the source. Now, a single lower tariff (Zone-1) applies for distances up to 300km.
- Impact: This is expected to bring down CNG and PNG costs in states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar in the coming weeks.
4. Other Price Changes Today
- Aviation Fuel (ATF): Prices have been reduced, which could stabilize flight ticket prices in January.
- Car Prices: As reported earlier, companies like Hyundai, Tata, and Mercedes have increased car prices by 1-3% from today.
FAQs
No. The price of the domestic 14.2kg cylinder remains the same as December 2025. The price cut is only for Piped Gas (PNG) and Commercial cylinders.
Currently, the specific price cut is announced by IGL for Delhi-NCR. However, with the new “Unified Tariff” rule effective Jan 1, other city gas operators may announce reductions soon.
Gas prices are reviewed every fortnight or month. This rate is valid for January 2026.
