Srinagar, Feb 1: A prolonged dry spell in Kashmir came to an end as fresh snowfall graced the higher reaches and rain soaked the plains. The Meteorological Department has forecasted more precipitation over the next four days.
Snowfall was reported intermittently in the higher altitudes of Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Sonmarg districts, with traces of snow observed in parts of South Kashmir early this morning.
In Srinagar and nearby areas, rainfall continued sporadically from the previous evening. This downpour led to a drop in the maximum temperature by a couple of degrees, while the minimum temperature remained just above freezing in the city.
The recorded low temperature in Srinagar was 0.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees higher than the usual norm for this time of year, according to the Met Department.
Other areas in Kashmir also saw relatively warmer minimum temperatures, with the exception of Gulmarg, where the mercury dipped to -7.2 degrees Celsius.
