If you frequently travel between Manesar and Gurugram, be prepared to pay toll tax. In a move aimed at improving road safety, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed the U-turn near Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway, forcing commuters to take a longer route via Dwarka Expressway’s cloverleaf—which comes with a toll fee.

Why Was the U-Turn Closed?

According to NHAI, the closure was necessary to reduce accidents, as the U-turn had become a high-risk area due to frequent vehicle collisions. A road safety survey conducted by Almondz Global Infra Consultant Limited recommended the move, citing safety concerns.

How Will This Affect Commuters?

  • Car drivers will now have to pay a one-time toll of ₹85.
  • Heavy vehicles will be charged at different rates.
  • Traffic congestion near Rampura Chowk is expected to increase as more vehicles divert to alternative routes.
  • Residents of over 35 societies in Sector 68 to 85 are protesting, as they will now have to pay toll tax even for short local trips.

Traffic Disruptions & Commuter Concerns

On Thursday, authorities barricaded the U-turn in the presence of police and duty magistrates, leading to traffic jams and heated arguments between drivers and toll officials. Many commuters, unaware of the closure, attempted to drive in the wrong direction, further worsening the situation.

Alternative Routes to Avoid Toll Tax

  1. Rampura Road Route: Travelers from Sohna or Faridabad can reach Manesar via Sector-76-77’s main road instead of using the highway.
  2. Dwarka Expressway Cloverleaf: Those heading from Manesar to Gurugram, Sohna, or Faridabad must now take this route and pay the toll.

Backlash from Residents & Businesses

Residents and business owners are strongly opposing the decision, arguing that the closure adds unnecessary expenses and increases travel time. Praveen Malik, President of the Industrial Association, stated that over 10,000 residents from nearby societies will be affected, and he plans to petition the District Deputy Commissioner to reopen the U-turn.

Final Thoughts

While NHAI’s decision is driven by road safety concerns, the sudden closure has sparked frustration among commuters. With increased traffic congestion and additional toll fees, local residents and businesses are demanding reconsideration. Will the authorities make adjustments? Time will tell.
