Key highlights
- Amount paid: ₹2.5 crore, lawyer said.
- Total payable stated: ₹9 crore (including interest/penalty/additions).
- Court record: Seven cases; ₹1.35 crore required in each; ₹75 lakh deposited via DDs in October 2025.
- Complainant: M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd.

Why the court intervened
In an order dated February 2 and reported by The Tribune, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma observed that Yadav repeatedly breached undertakings given to the court to repay the amount to the complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. The court said it found no justification to continue the indulgence granted earlier, noting that Yadav had admitted liability and undertaken to repay the amount.
What the lawyer said
Upadhyay told NDTV he could not disclose who provided the money, calling it a “family matter,” and said: “Out of Rs 5 crore so far, Rs 2.5 crore have been given. Let’s see what the court decides on Monday.” NDTV reported the initial debt was ₹5 crore and, with “interest, penalty and other additions,” the total sum payable stood at ₹9 crore.
Case background and payments on record
NDTV linked Yadav’s financial troubles to unpaid dues escalating after the failure of his 2012 film Ata Pata Laapata, which marked his directorial debut. The complainant in the proceedings is M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, as recorded in the High Court order reported by The Tribune and also referenced in NDTV’s report.
The High Court recorded that Yadav was required to make payment of ₹1.35 crore in each of the seven cases against him. The court also noted that in October 2025, two demand drafts totalling ₹75 lakh were deposited with the Registrar General and that an amount of ₹9 crore remained payable.
Custody status and industry support
NDTV reported Yadav surrendered at Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 5 after the High Court rejected his plea for more time in the matter. According to NDTV, Yadav’s manager said Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Sonu Sood extended financial support to the actor.
