New Delhi / Srinagar: In a significant diplomatic maneuver, India has confirmed a historic “double invitation” for the 77th Republic Day celebrations. For the first time, the Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council will jointly grace the occasion at Kartavya Path on January 26, 2026.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa will be the Guests of Honour.
A Strategic Signal
According to official sources from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), this move signals a deepening strategic partnership between New Delhi and Brussels. The visit, scheduled from January 25-27, is expected to accelerate talks on the pending India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The leaders will witness the grand parade showcasing India’s military might and cultural heritage, which this year is themed around “Vande Mataram” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat”.
They will also co-chair the 16th India-EU Summit on January 27, where trade, technology, and global security will be key agenda items.
