Mumbai, Jan 31: Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to receive the BCCI’s C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award at the Board’s annual gala this Saturday, marking another milestone in his illustrious career.
The 51-year-old, widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the history of the sport, played a staggering 664 international matches for India. He remains the highest run-scorer in both Test (15,921 runs) and ODI cricket (18,426 runs)—a testament to his enduring dominance.
A BCCI official confirmed the honor, stating, “Yes, he will be the recipient of the C K Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for 2024.”
Tendulkar’s contribution to the game extends beyond his remarkable statistics. Over a career spanning more than two decades, he inspired millions and played a pivotal role in India’s 2011 World Cup victory, his sixth and final appearance in the tournament.
Debuting as a 16-year-old against Pakistan in 1989, Tendulkar went on to set numerous records, including the most Test (200) and ODI (463) appearances by any cricketer. Though he played just one T20 International, his impact on the shorter formats remained significant.
In 2023, the prestigious award was conferred upon former India head coach Ravi Shastri and wicket-keeping legend Farokh Engineer. Tendulkar now becomes the 31st recipient of the honor, which was instituted in 1994 in memory of Col. C K Nayudu, India’s first Test captain and a distinguished cricket administrator.
Nayudu, whose first-class career spanned an incredible 47 years (1916-1963), remains a historic figure in Indian cricket.
With this latest recognition, Tendulkar’s legacy as a cricketing icon and national treasure continues to shine, cementing his place in the annals of the sport’s greatest legends.
