1. Uttar Pradesh: Big Relief for Primary Students

The Uttar Pradesh government has empowered district magistrates to take calls based on local weather.

  • Lucknow: The District Magistrate has ordered schools up to Class 8 to remain shut until January 8, 2026.
    • Senior Classes (9-12): Will operate from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM only.
  • Noida & Ghaziabad: Most private schools have extended the break for junior classes. Parents are advised to check their official school WhatsApp groups for the “Online Class” schedule.

2. Punjab: Schools Shut Till Jan 7

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has officially confirmed that all government, aided, and private schools across the state will remain closed until Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

  • Reopening: Schools are expected to resume on January 8 (Thursday), unless the fog conditions worsen.

3. Rajasthan: Jaipur Extends Break

In view of the freezing temperatures in the desert state, the Jaipur District Administration has issued specific orders:

  • Class Nursery to 5: Holidays extended till January 10.
  • Class 6 to 8: Holidays extended till January 8.
  • Note: Teachers and staff must still attend school for administrative work and board exam prep.

4. Jharkhand: Closed Till Jan 8

The Jharkhand government has taken a strict stance to protect students from the biting cold. All schools (Government and Private) from KG to Class 12 will remain closed until January 8, 2026.

  • Online Classes: Private schools have been permitted to conduct online sessions for Class 10 and 12 students.

5. Tripura: Rare State-Wide Closure

In a significant move for the Northeast, the Tripura government has declared a state-wide closure of all educational institutions until January 10, 2026, citing extreme weather conditions and poor visibility.

Impact & Safety Tips

While J&K schools remain closed for their scheduled winter break (until Feb/March), the cold wave has disrupted life in the plains.

  • Transport Safety: School buses in Haryana and Punjab are running late due to fog. Ensure your child waits at the stop with adequate woolen layers.
  • Health: The IMD has issued an “Orange Alert” for Cold Day conditions. Avoid early morning exposure for children with asthma.

FAQs

Q: Is there a holiday in Delhi tomorrow (Jan 7)?

Delhi schools are currently observing their scheduled winter break from Jan 1 to Jan 15. No new extension is needed as schools are already closed.

Q: Will online classes be held in UP?

Yes. Most private schools in Lucknow, Noida, and Kanpur have switched to Online Mode for senior classes (9-12) to ensure the syllabus is completed before the Pre-Board exams.

Q: Is the holiday applicable to teachers?

In most states (like Rajasthan and Jharkhand), teachers are required to report to school for administrative duties despite the student holiday.

Transparency & Ethics
