Indian Railways will operate special train services between Katra and Srinagar for two days, aiming to facilitate passenger movement and assess operational readiness on the newly completed rail corridor in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to officials, the special services are being run on a trial and passenger facilitation basis, allowing railway authorities to evaluate logistics, safety systems, and passenger response before finalising regular schedules. The move comes amid growing public interest in rail connectivity to the Kashmir Valley following the completion of key sections of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
The temporary train operations are expected to:
- Ease travel demand during peak movement days
- Support tourism and pilgrimage traffic
- Test end-to-end operational efficiency on the route
The Katra–Srinagar rail link is considered a landmark infrastructure achievement, significantly reducing travel time and providing all-weather connectivity to the Valley.
Railway authorities are expected to take a call on regular passenger train services after reviewing feedback and performance data from these special runs.
