The J&K Traffic Police has issued a fresh advisory for tomorrow, January 2, 2026, following reports of fresh snowfall in the upper reaches and dense fog in the plains.

Here is the detailed traffic plan for tomorrow.

1. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)

  • Status for Jan 2: Traffic will be allowed from both sides (Jammu and Srinagar), but strictly Subject to Fair Weather and road conditions.
  • The Warning:
    • Shooting Stones: Intermittent shooting stones have been reported near Mehar, Cafeteria Morh, and T-5 Tunnel (Panthyal) due to the overcast weather.
    • Congestion: Traffic is slow moving at Dalwas and Nashri due to single-lane road conditions and poor surface quality.
  • Advisory: Commuters are advised to cross the Navyug Tunnel (Banihal) before 2:00 PM to avoid getting stuck if the weather deteriorates in the evening.

2. Roads Closed (Snow Alert)

Due to fresh snowfall recorded today (Jan 1) at higher altitudes, the following roads are OFFICIALLY CLOSED for vehicular movement until further notice:

  • Mughal Road: (Shopian to Poonch) – Closed due to snow at Peer Ki Gali.
  • Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road: Closed for maintenance and snow clearance at Zojila Axis.
  • Sinthan-Kishtwar Road: Closed due to slippery conditions.

3. Flight Operations: Massive Delays Expected

If you are flying to or from Srinagar (SXR) or Jammu (IXJ) tomorrow, be prepared for delays.

  • Delhi Fog Effect: With Delhi Airport (IGIA) witnessing “Zero Visibility” this morning (causing 140+ cancellations), the knock-on effect will likely delay flights to J&K by 2-4 hours.
  • Srinagar Status: While the runway at Srinagar is clear, flights may be cancelled if the incoming aircraft cannot take off from Delhi/Jammu.
  • Tip: Check your “Flight Status” on the airline app before leaving home. Do not rely on the initial schedule.

4. Train Services

  • Vande Bharat & Rajdhani: Trains arriving at Jammu Tawi and Katra are running late by 4 to 6 hours due to dense fog in Punjab and Haryana.
  • Kashmir Train (Baramulla-Banihal): Running ON TIME. This remains the most reliable mode of transport within the Valley right now.

Helpline Numbers (Save These)

Before starting your journey tomorrow, confirm the status with the Traffic Control Units (TCU):

  • Jammu TCU: 0191-2459048
  • Srinagar TCU: 0194-2450022
  • Ramban TCU: 9419993745
  • National Highway Helpline: 1033
