New Delhi: If you were planning to drive home a new car in 2026, be prepared to shell out extra money.
As warned by automakers last month, the New Year Price Hike has officially come into effect from today, January 1, 2026. Major car manufacturers have revised their ex-showroom prices upwards to offset rising input costs and inflation.
According to a regulatory filing by Hyundai Motor India, the company has increased prices by an average of 0.6% across its entire model range starting today. This means popular cars like the Creta and Venue will now cost ₹5,000 to ₹15,000 more.
List of Brands Hiking Prices Today
While some companies are yet to update their price lists, the following have confirmed the hike:
- Mercedes-Benz India: Prices hiked by up to 2% (approx ₹50,000 to ₹3 Lakh increase) on select luxury models.
- Nissan India: A steep hike of 3% has been implemented on the Magnite SUV range.
- MG Motor: Prices for models like the Hector and Comet EV have risen by roughly 2%.
- Maruti Suzuki & Tata Motors: While an official “January 1” notification is awaited, dealers in Jammu and Delhi have stopped taking bookings at old rates, signaling an imminent announcement.
Why Are Prices Rising?
In a statement to the press, industry experts cited by SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) explained that the cost of steel, aluminum, and semiconductors has remained volatile. Additionally, the depreciation of the Rupee in late 2025 has made imported components more expensive.
The “Silver Lining”: Discounts on 2025 Stock
If you want to beat the price hike, there is one trick left. Dealers are currently desperate to clear their “2025 Manufactured Stock”.
- The Deal: You can still get heavy discounts (up to ₹50,000 – ₹1 Lakh) on cars manufactured in Nov/Dec 2025.
- The Catch: These cars will have a “2025” registration year, which might slightly lower their resale value later.
Upcoming Launches in Jan 2026
The market isn’t just about price hikes; exciting new cars are coming this month:
- Renault Duster 2026: Expected to be unveiled around Republic Day (Jan 26).
- Tata Harrier EV: Rumored to have its final production spec revealed this month.
