Srinagar, Feb 28: The holy month of Ramadhan will officially begin in Jammu and Kashmir and across India on Sunday, March 2, as the crescent moon was not sighted on Wednesday evening.

Grand Mufti of Kashmir, Nasir ul Islam, confirmed that there were no crescent moon sightings anywhere in Kashmir, meaning the first day of fasting will commence on Sunday.

Similarly, the Markaz-e-Chand Committee in Lucknow and the Markaz-e-Royat-e-Hilal Committee at Jama Masjid Delhi also announced that the moon was not visible anywhere in India.

“The first of Ramadhan will be on March 2, Sunday,” said Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi, President of the Markaz-e-Chand Committee.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, the crescent moon was sighted, meaning fasting will begin there on Saturday.

As the holy month begins, Muslims worldwide prepare for a month of fasting, prayer, and spiritual reflection.

Ramadhan Mubarak!
