Srinagar, Jan 31: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for a fresh spell of rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, as two Western Disturbances (WDs) are expected to become active starting February 1 and February 3. These weather systems are projected to affect the region until February 5, with a particular emphasis on the hilly regions, which will experience fresh snowfall.
Western Disturbances are significant contributors to winter precipitation in the region, and the upcoming disturbances are expected to provide much-needed snowfall to higher altitudes. This will help replenish glaciers and water sources, which are crucial for the agricultural and hydropower sectors in Kashmir.
Authorities have advised both residents and travelers, particularly in mountainous areas, to stay vigilant as snow accumulation and slippery road conditions may lead to disruptions. As Kashmir transitions from Chillai Kalan to Chillai Khurd, this upcoming spell of wet weather is expected to influence temperature patterns across the Valley in the coming days. (KNT)
