Jammu, Jan 30: The Business Rules Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislature is set to meet on February 4, 2024. The meeting, scheduled for 11 am, will take place at the Legislative Assembly complex in Jammu, under the leadership of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.
The committee, tasked with drafting rules of procedure for legislative business, has met twice so far. Formed on December 24, 2024, through Rule 363 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, it comprises nine members, with the Speaker serving as the ex-officio chairman.
The committee’s first meeting occurred on January 1, 2025, followed by a second on January 7, 2025. At the second session, the committee focused on addressing inconsistencies in the existing rules, as creating new rules is under the purview of the Lieutenant Governor.
The committee has been instructed to finalize the draft Rules of Procedure before the commencement of the Budget session, slated for March 3, 2025.
In addition to Speaker Rather, the committee includes members such as former Speaker Mubarik Gul (NC), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami (CPI-M), Saifullah Mir (NC), Nizam-ud-Din Bhat (Congress), Pawan Kumar Gupta (BJP), Justice (retired) Hasnain Masoodi (NC), Ranbir Singh Pathania (BJP), and independent MLA Muzaffar Iqbal Khan.
