Weather Update (February 7): The Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in the western Himalayan region from February 8-12. In the past 24 hours, Himachal Pradesh experienced a cold wave, while dense fog covered parts of Meghalaya and Assam.
North India Sees Temperature Rise, But Rain Is Coming
Temperatures in North India have started rising, with bright sunshine during the day. However, chilly winds are making it feel cold. The temperature is expected to rise further in the coming days, but starting tomorrow, the weather is set to change. Rain is expected in the hilly states for five days, from February 8-12.
The IMD has confirmed rainfall in the western Himalayan region during this period. In addition, a cold wave persisted in Himachal Pradesh over the last 24 hours, and dense fog was reported in Meghalaya and Assam. Rainfall also occurred in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram.
Cyclonic System Bringing More Rain to Northeast
According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation is present over northeast Assam and nearby areas. This system is likely to bring scattered to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning to Arunachal Pradesh and northeast Assam on February 7, 10, and 11.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in northwest India is expected to rise by 2-3°C over the next three days before stabilizing. In central India, temperatures may drop by 3°C in the next two days. In eastern India, minimum temperatures will likely increase by 2-4°C after three days. Maharashtra is also expected to see a rise of 2-3°C in minimum temperature after 24 hours. Additionally, dense fog is predicted in parts of north Odisha until February 9. The cold wave in Himachal Pradesh is expected to persist until February 7.
Rajasthan Sees Temperature Drop in Some Areas
Northern cold winds have led to a drop in minimum temperatures in parts of Rajasthan, according to IMD officials. Radheshyam Sharma, head of IMD’s Jaipur center, reported that Fatehpur in the Shekhawati region recorded the lowest temperature last night at 2.1°C. Other recorded temperatures include:
- Karauli: 3.8°C
- Nagaur: 4.3°C
- Dausa-Churu: 5.6°C
- Lunkaransar (Bikaner): 4.6°C
- Chittorgarh & Pilani: 6.4°C
- Sangaria: 6.6°C
- Sikar: 7°C
- Jaipur: 10.2°C
