Traffic Advisory – Jammu & Kashmir (Updated for 05-05-2025)
Issued by: Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K (Jammu/Srinagar)

Current Road Status (03 May 2025, 5:00 PM – 04 May 2025, 5:00 PM)

Traffic movement on National Highway (NH-44) remained slow due to:

  • Breakdown of 3 heavy motor vehicles (HMVs)
  • Movement of 5 nomadic livestock flocks
  • Single-lane traffic at key points: Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and between Marog & Kishtwari Pather
  • Ongoing four-lane construction work

At Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban, traffic was regulated due to a narrow 150–200 meter stretch of single-lane road. Commuters are strongly advised to:

  • Avoid overtaking and wrong-lane driving
  • Maintain lane discipline
  • Be patient with traffic coming from the opposite side

General Advice for Travelers

  • Travel during daylight hours on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, especially between Ramban and Banihal, due to risk of shooting stones
  • Goods vehicle drivers carrying perishable goods or livestock should follow traffic advisories issued regularly
  • Roads at Dalwas, Mehad, Marog, and Kishtwari Pather are in poor condition
  • Avoid overloading, ensure vehicles have sufficient fuel, and confirm the fitness of the vehicle before starting the journey
  • Only HMVs with 6 or 10 tyres are allowed to use Dhar Road
  • Refrain from unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone zones

Traffic Plan for 05 May 2025

Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)

  • LMVs (passenger/private cars): Allowed from both sides (Jammu ↔ Srinagar) if weather and road conditions permit
  • HMVs (load carriers):
    • Allowed from Qazigund (Navyug Tunnel) towards Jammu
    • Not allowed after 4:00 PM
  • Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban to monitor road conditions

Travelers should check live updates on:

  • J&K Traffic Police Twitter
  • J&K Traffic Police Facebook Page

Security Forces Convoy Movement

Security forces are urged to follow traffic advisories strictly due to narrow roads between Nashree and Banihal. On 05 May 2025, convoys are permitted to travel from Srinagar to Jammu only after confirming NH-44 status with TCU Ramban.

Other Important Road Updates

Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244)

  • Decision on vehicle movement pending clearance from NHIDCL (road maintenance agency)

SSG Road (Sonamarg-Kargil Route)

  • Subject to fair weather and BRO clearance
    • From Kargil to Srinagar: LMVs followed by HMVs from Minamarg (9:00 AM to 11:30 AM)
    • From Srinagar to Kargil: Only LMVs from Sonamarg (12:30 PM to 3:30 PM)
    • No vehicle movement allowed after cutoff times

Mughal Road (Jammu ↔ Srinagar via Poonch)

  • LMVs allowed from both directions
  • HMVs (local livestock, up to 6 tyres) allowed only from Poonch to Shopian
    • Movement permitted between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM via Behramgala (Baffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian)

Bhaderwah–Chamba Road

  • Remains closed due to snow accumulation
