Traffic Update for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) – 01-03-2025 to 02-03-2025
1. Slow Traffic Alert:
From 5:00 PM on March 1, 2025, to 5:00 PM on March 2, 2025, slow traffic was observed on NH-44 due to the breakdown of two Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs). There was also single-lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, compounded by ongoing four-lane construction work.
2. Travel Advisory for Passengers/LMVs:
It is advised that passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators travel on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daylight hours, as there is a risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
3. Goods Carrier Advisory:
HMV and LMV operators transporting perishable goods or livestock should load their vehicles as per the advisory issued by Traffic Police Headquarters. The road conditions at Dalwas, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather are poor, with single-lane traffic, making these sections challenging to navigate.
4. Safety Measures for HMV Operators:
We urge HMV operators to avoid overloading their vehicles and ensure sufficient fuel for the journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners must check the fitness of their vehicles and ensure proper fuel levels before embarking on the journey.
5. HMV Restrictions on Dhar Road:
The Dhar Road will only be open to HMVs with six or ten wheels.
6. Avoid Halting in Dangerous Areas:
We advise commuters to avoid unnecessary stops between Ramban and Banihal, particularly in areas prone to landslides or shooting stones.

Traffic Plan & Advisory for 03-03-2025

Jammu Srinagar National Highway (NH-44):
If the weather remains clear and road conditions improve, passenger vehicles (LMVs) can travel in both directions on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), from Jammu to Srinagar, and vice versa. However, a road condition assessment will allow HMVs to move toward Jammu from the NAVYUG Tunnel (Qazigund side). Traffic Control Units (TCU) in Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban for updated road information. Commuters should check the status of NH-44 on the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Security Forces Convoy Movement:
Security Forces are requested to adhere to the traffic advisory and avoid traveling against the plan, as the narrow carriageway between Nashree and Banihal may cause congestion. SF convoys should only move from Srinagar to Jammu after confirming the NHW status with TCU Ramban.
