(Srinagar/Jammu): The J&K Traffic Police has issued a fresh advisory for Sunday, January 4, 2026. While the vital Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains open for traffic, authorities have warned of slow movement at multiple bottlenecks. Meanwhile, alternate routes connecting the Valley to Jammu remain shut due to heavy snow accumulation.

Here is the complete road status report for today.

NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar Highway): OPEN

Traffic is allowed to ply from both sides (Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa), subject to fair weather conditions.

  • Traffic Status: Two-way traffic allowed for LMVs (Light Motor Vehicles).
  • Slow Movement Alert: Commuters should expect delays at Dalwas, Mehar-Cafeteria Morh, and Ramban due to single-lane stretches and poor road surface.
  • HMV (Trucks) Update: Heavy Motor Vehicles are allowed to move after assessing the road condition. Please follow the convoy released by the Traffic Control Unit (TCU).

Important Advisory: “Travelers are strongly advised to undertake the journey during daylight hours only. Night travel should be avoided as heavy vehicle movement between Nashri and Navyug Tunnel causes congestion.”

Major Road Closures (Do Not Travel)

The following alternate routes remain CLOSED for all vehicular movement due to snow accumulation and slippery conditions:

  1. Mughal Road (Shopian-Bafliaz-Poonch) – CLOSED
  2. Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road – Regulated (Only up to Sonamarg, Zojila Pass is risky).
  3. Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road – CLOSED
  4. Bhaderwah-Chamba Road – CLOSED

Safety Instructions for Drivers

  • Anti-Skid Chains: If you are traveling towards upper reaches (like Sonamarg or Gulmarg), carrying anti-skid chains is mandatory.
  • Lane Discipline: Do not overtake in the “Slide Zones” (Ramban sector). Overtaking creates gridlocks that can last for hours.

Emergency Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Numbers

Before starting your journey, confirm the latest status by calling these official numbers:

  • Jammu: 0191-2459048, 9419147732
  • Srinagar: 0194-2450022, 1800-180-7091
  • Ramban: 9419993745
  • Udhampur: 8491928625
