NH44 Traffic Update Today:

Jammu/Srinagar: The J&K Traffic Police Headquarters has issued a critical advisory for travelers on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) for Wednesday, January 21, 2026. While the authorities have cleared the highway for two-way traffic for both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), a strong warning has been issued against night travel due to severe safety hazards in the Ramban sector.

NH-44 Status: Open but “Slow Moving”

NH44 Traffic Update Today: Subject to fair weather, traffic will ply from both Jammu towards Srinagar and Srinagar towards Jammu. However, commuters must plan for delays.

  • Bottleneck Alert: Traffic congestion is expected to be high at Dalwas (Nashri), Mehad-Cafeteria, and Kishtwari Pather.
    • Driver Note: Maintain strict lane discipline in these zones to avoid gridlock. Overtaking here often leads to hours of delay.
  • The Warning: Authorities have explicitly advised passengers and operators to “prefer journeys during daytime.” Night travel should be strictly avoided due to the high risk of unseen shooting stones in the Ramban sector and black ice formation near the tunnel portals (Navyug & Chenani-Nashri).

    • Mandatory: Anti-skid chains are required for all vehicles due to slippery conditions.

Key Highlights Box: Travel Checklist

  • NH-44 (Highway): Open (Two-Way).

  • Sinthan Top: CLOSED.
  • Mughal/SSG: Chains Mandatory.
