India vs New Zealand Final, ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final: Rohit Sharma has done a wonderful job as Indian captain over the past few years and is quite close to guiding the side to yet another significant win as they take on New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final.

Having won the T20 World Cup title last year in Barbados, India is making their second consecutive ICC final under Rohit’s captaincy. The Men in Blue will be facing New Zealand in the championship game set for the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 9.

Apart from the summit battle, emphasis will also be on Rohit Sharma’s future in the ODI format since there has been heated discussion over that ever since India’s loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Just two months shy of thirty-eight, Rohit has already retired from the T20I level.

While India’s next significant ODI event is the ODI World Cup 2027, their next Test series is in June when they go to England. Now, with so much time between the Champions Trophy 2025 and the next World Cup, there are rumours Rohit might make the big call.

According to a Dainik Jagran article, Rohit would quit the ODIs should India lose against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final on Sunday. The report further asserted that Rohit’s choice should India win is not clear-cut. In both circumstances, Rohit—who has been making great attempts with the bat as an opener—will make the whole decision.

Should India win the Champions Trophy 2025 final, the research also indicated that Rohit’s chances of staying active in ODIs are somewhat strong. After that, the club management would consider handing the leadership to a younger player, perhaps Hardik Pandya or Shubman Gill.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar recently advised Rohit Sharma to aspire for longer innings rather than concentrating on merely providing fast starts and be happy with his 25-30-run performance.

The Indian skipper has become well-known in ODI cricket for his aggressive and quick start, although this has sometimes led to early dismissals.

In the opening game of the ongoing Champions Trophy, he scored 41 against Bangladesh.

” Rohit Sharma bats for even 25 overs, India will score between 180 and 200. Imagine if they had only lost a few wickets by then; just consider what they may do. They could reach 350 or more,” Gavaskar said in India Today.

“He ought to consider that as well. While playing aggressively is one thing, there has to be some moderation somewhere to allow himself the opportunity to bat for 25–30 overs. Should he do this, he removes the game from the opposition. Such kind of influence is match winning. So far in the competition, Rohit has scored 20, 15, and 28 against Australia, New Zealand, and Pakistan, respectively.

“And as a batter, are you satisfied with 25–30 runs? Neither should you be! That is what I would advise him: if you bat for 25 overs instead of only seven, eight, or nine overs, your influence on the team will be even more.” Gavaskar stated.
