New Delhi/Chandigarh/Guwahati: Following the 77th Republic Day celebrations, several state governments have issued official closure notices for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026. While educational hubs like Delhi and Mumbai will remain open, specific regions in North and North-East India have declared a holiday. Additionally, a major nationwide banking disruption is expected due to a scheduled industrial strike.

Where are Schools CLOSED?

  • Punjab: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has officially declared January 27 a holiday for all government, aided, and private schools. This tradition honors the students and teachers who participated in the state-level Republic Day parades.
  • Chandigarh (UT): The Chandigarh Administration has issued a formal order keeping all schools in the Union Territory closed tomorrow.
  • Assam: Schools and state offices across Assam are closed on January 27 in observance of Gwthar Bathou San (Bathow Puja), a gazetted holiday in the state.
  • Jammu & Kashmir: Schools in the Kashmir division and winter zones of Jammu remain shut under the ongoing Winter Vacation schedule.
