WhatsApp Tests AI-Generated Icons for Group Chats: Reports suggest that WhatsApp may be adding new features, as some beta users claim to have seen an image generation option. The latest 2.25.6.10 beta version for Android available on the Play Store indicates that WhatsApp may be removing the capability to generate AI icons for groups.
Still, it appears this capability of creating AI-generated images is restricted to group icons only, which is different from what was claimed earlier. Hence, the possibility of generating AI-enabled profile pictures for personal accounts does not exist at this time, and this capability is restricted to the creation of group icons.
A couple of beta testers have already begun reporting this feature, and as you can tell from the screenshot provided, this feature may be helpful for users who do not have an appropriate image for their group and would rather let Meta AI do the heavy lifting. Users can just provide a description of what they want rather than looking for an image or taking a new photo, and the AI will create a custom image that meets their specifications. AI-generated group icons can also assist in representing concepts that would be difficult to depict in a real photograph. For example, if a group’s focus is on futuristic technology, fantasy worlds, or abstraction, Meta AI can come up with an image that better describes the group.
