Jammu Srinagar traffic update Jan 11: The Jammu & Kashmir Traffic Police has released the advisory for Sunday, January 11, 2026. While the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains open for traffic from both sides, heavy snowfall has forced the continued closure of alternate high-altitude routes, including the Mughal Road and Sinthan Top.
Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) Status
Subject to fair weather, passenger LMVs and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to ply from both Jammu and Srinagar.
- Advisory: Commuters are strongly advised to travel during daylight hours.
- Caution: Authorities observed slow traffic movement today due to single-lane stretches at Dalwas, Mehar-Cafeteria, and Kishtwari Pather. Night travel is discouraged to avoid inconvenience caused by heavy truck movement between the Nashri and Navyug tunnels.
- Lane Discipline: Overtaking and wrong-lane driving will lead to severe congestion. Please drive responsibly.
Jammu Srinagar traffic update Jan 11: Road Closures (Snowbound Routes)
Winter conditions have tightened their grip on the higher reaches, cutting off alternate connectivity to the valley.
- Mughal Road: CLOSED for all vehicular movement due to significant snow accumulation.
- Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244): CLOSED due to fresh snowfall at Sinthan Top.
Ladakh Connectivity (SSG Road)
Traffic on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road is restricted to one-way movement from Kargil towards Srinagar only.
- Timing: Vehicles will be released from Minamarg between 1100 hrs and 1500 hrs.
- Mandatory: Only vehicles (LMVs followed by HMVs up to 6 tyres) fitted with anti-skid chains are allowed.
- Warning: Do not attempt this journey without chains; the road is extremely slippery.
Emergency Helplines
Travelers are advised to confirm the road status before starting their journey:
