Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K (Jammu/Srinagar) has issued the Traffic Plan & Advisory for 13-01-2026 for NH-44 and key winter routes.
Commuters are advised to prefer daytime travel on NH-44 and avoid night movement, while the Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road remains closed due to fresh snow accumulation.
NH-44 (Jammu–Srinagar) update
From 11-01-2026 (1600 hrs) to 12-01-2026 (1600 hrs), slow movement was observed on NH-44 due to single-lane traffic at Banihal, Dewal, Nashri–Dalwas and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. The advisory also noted the breakdown of three HMVs on NH-44.
For January 13, subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs/HPVs/private cars and HMVs (goods carriers) are planned to be allowed from both sides (Jammu ↔ Srinagar). TCUs Jammu/Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Night travel advisory (NH-44)
Passengers and LMV operators are advised to undertake the journey on NH-44 during daytime.
Authorities cautioned that night travel may be inconvenient as movement of HMVs between Nashri Tunnel and NAVYUG Tunnel can cause delays. Commuters are also advised to maintain lane discipline, as overtaking and wrong-lane driving can trigger congestion.
SF convoy movement
Subject to fair weather and good road condition, Security Forces vehicles are planned to be allowed from both sides on NH-44 (Jammu ↔ Srinagar).
Movement will be undertaken after confirming the status of the highway from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag (NH-244)
The Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road is closed for vehicular movement due to fresh snow accumulation, as per the advisory.
SSG Road (Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumari): conditional movement
Subject to fair weather and good road condition (after receiving the green signal from BRO), traffic movement is planned from Kargil towards Srinagar.
Vehicles moving from Minamarg to Srinagar are to be allowed between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. Anti-skid chains are mandatory. LMVs will move first, followed by HMVs up to 06 tyres.
Mughal Road: conditional movement with timings
Subject to fair weather and good road condition (after receiving the green signal from GREF), LMVs/private cars with anti-skid chains are planned to be allowed both ways (Poonch ↔ Shopian).
Movement is permitted between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm, and no vehicle will be allowed after cut-off timing.
Safety Alert: Beware of Black Ice Drivers traveling on Mughal Road and SSG Road (Zojila) are strictly warned about “Black Ice” formation during early morning hours.
