Srinagar/New Delhi: The dream of reaching Srinagar from New Delhi in just 13 hours is about to become a reality.
As we step into 2026, the Indian Railways is prepping for the most historic launch of the decade. Top officials have indicated that the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) is now fully operational, and the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to make its debut run in January 2026.
If you are planning a trip to the Valley or heading back to Delhi, here is everything you need to know about this game-changing train.
1. The Schedule: Delhi to Srinagar Overnight
Unlike the current Vande Bharat (Chair Car) which stops at Katra, the new Sleeper Version will cross the Chenab Bridge to reach Srinagar.
- Departure: Expected to leave New Delhi (NDLS) at 7:00 PM.
- Arrival: Reach Srinagar the next morning at 8:00 AM.
- Travel Time: Less than 13 Hours (Currently takes 20+ hours by road/bus).
2. Route & Key Stops
The train will traverse the world’s highest railway bridge (Chenab Bridge) and pass through India’s longest transportation tunnel (T-50).
- Stoppages: Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana, Jammu Tawi, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Sangaldan, and Banihal.
- Tourism Boost: Tourists can now sleep in Delhi and wake up to the snow-clad mountains of Kashmir without the hassle of flight delays.
3. Ticket Prices (Estimated)
Indian Railways aims to keep the fares competitive with air travel.
- AC 3 Tier: Approx ₹2,000
- AC 2 Tier: Approx ₹2,500
- First AC: Approx ₹3,000
- Note: Final fares will be released upon official notification.
4. Weather Proof Travel
While flights to Srinagar get cancelled due to snow and fog (like today), this train is designed to be All-Weather. It runs on an electric line protected by advanced signaling, ensuring connectivity even during heavy snowfall in Banihal.
