Srinagar/Jammu: The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has released the official traffic plan for today, Saturday, January 17, 2026. Authorities have cleared the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) for movement from both sides, subject to fair weather. However, travelers are warned of slow movement at friction points like Balinalla, Dewal, and Dalwas due to single-lane conditions and ongoing construction.

NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar) Status

  • Movement: Subject to fair weather, LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars) and HMVs (Load Carriers) shall be allowed from both Jammu towards Srinagar and Srinagar towards Jammu.
  • Caution: Commuters are strongly advised to travel during daytime only. Night travel should be avoided due to the high risk of shooting stones and landslides between Ramban and Banihal.
  • Bottlenecks: Expect slow traffic at Marog, Kishtwari Pather, and Nashri-Dalwas due to single-lane stretches and breakdown risks.

High-Altitude Routes (Snow Alerts)

Severe restrictions are in place for secondary routes due to fresh snow accumulation.

  1. Mughal Road (Poonch-Shopian):
    • Status: OPEN for LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars) ONLY with Anti-Skid Chains.
    • Timing: Traffic allowed from Chandimarh (Baffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 10:30 AM to 02:30 PM.
    • Strict Rule: No vehicle will be allowed after the cut-off time.
  2. SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari):
    • Status: One-Way Movement from Kargil towards Srinagar.
    • Requirement: Anti-skid chains are mandatory.
    • Timing: Vehicles allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM.
  3. Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244):
    • Status: CLOSED. No vehicular movement is permitted due to heavy snow accumulation.

Security Forces (SFs) Convoy

  • NH-44: Allowed from both sides subject to road verification from TCU Ramban.
  • SSG Road: Convoys moving from Kargil to Srinagar must time their movement to avoid disturbing civilian traffic flow.

Key Highlights Box:

  • NH-44: Open (Two-Way). Avoid Night Travel.
  • Mughal Road: Chains Mandatory (10:30 AM – 2:30 PM).
  • Sinthan Top: Closed.
  • SSG Road: Kargil to Srinagar Only (Chains Mandatory).

FAQ Section:

Q1: Is NH-44 open for two-way traffic on January 17 in J&K?

A: Yes, the plan allows two-way movement for LMVs and HMVs (good carriers) subject to fair weather and better road conditions, with coordination through TCU Ramban.

A: The Kishtwar–Sinthan–Anantnag road (NH-244) is closed due to fresh snow accumulation.
