While the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains open for two-way traffic, authorities have issued a strong advisory against night travel due to shooting stones.
J&K Traffic Update Jan 14 2026 NH-44 status: NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar) Status
- Movement: Subject to fair weather, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to move from both sides (Jammu to Srinagar and vice-versa).
- Caution Areas: Commuters are warned of slow movement due to single-lane traffic at Balinalla, Dewal, Nashri-Dalwas, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
- Advisory: Travelers are advised to journey during daytime only. Night travel should be avoided due to the risk of landslides and ongoing construction between Ramban and Banihal.
Mughal Road & SSG Road Update
Mughal Road:
- Allowed for LMVs with Anti-Skid Chains only.
- Route: Jammu towards Srinagar via Poonch (and vice versa).
- Timing: Vehicles allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari):
- Traffic allowed from Srinagar towards Kargil strictly with Anti-Skid Chains.
- Timing: From Sonamarg to Kargil between 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
- Vehicle Limit: LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 6 tyres only).
Road Closures
- The Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244) road remains CLOSED for all vehicular movement due to fresh snow accumulation.
